2025-09-14 - When the Way is Unclear, Great Leaders Know What to Do When They Can't See Ahead
The fog rolled in fast.
I was walking along the coast during a much-needed break, breathing in the sea air, when visibility shrank. What had been a clear view just moments earlier was suddenly obscured. I could barely see the path ahead.
What had been a clear path seconds earlier became hidden in mist.
And it hit me - this is what leadership often feels like.
Especially in moments of uncertainty, where clarity is scarce, but expectations remain high.
I've faced many such moments - like when yet another major reform was announced just weeks before the new school year. The guidelines were vague. The expectations were enormous.
My team looked to me for direction. But truthfully, I was just as uncertain.
In that moment, I didn't pretend to have all the answers. Instead, I gathered everyone and said:
"This fog will lift, but until it does, we move forward together."
We identified what we did know and treated the unknown as a puzzle, something to explore, not fear.
We created shared principles to anchor ourselves. We kept communication open and flexible. And gradually, clarity returned.
The fog didn't stop us. It taught us how to lead through uncertainty with presence, trust, and adaptability.
Great leadership is not about waiting for perfect visibility.
It's about being the calm in the storm. It's about holding a vision steady, especially when others feel lost. And it's about reminding your team that even in the fog, they are not alone.
The real power lies in those willing to lead with faith in themselves and their team, moving forward with purpose, possibility, and optimism, even when the path isn't clear.
Imagine transforming those foggy moments into opportunities for growth and vision.

What My Clients Say
"Since meeting Gina just over 2 years ago, I have come to realise what an important resource a life and executive coach is to a serial workaholic, which I have been for many years.
Gina has been at my side (metaphorically) throughout the last 2 and a half years as my life and executive coach and our relationship and her support has led to numerous life-changing experiences that, without Gina, I don't believe would have been possible.
Although I am considered to be a successful (some say high-flying) grown-up (I'm 36) and happily married, I have come to realize there are certain areas of my life that need a little (ok, maybe a lot) of attention. Relationships in my life, both personal and professional, have been challenging at times and Gina has worked with me to discover new and successful ways of approaching these challenges. Together we have identified potential new ways to behave and communicate with my team and my boss at work as well as with my parents and my husband.
Gina has been the enabler in helping me release more of my personal potential and she has taught me how to prepare for the future. In looking at the potential future in different ways, I have been able to identify new opportunities for personal and professional growth and I have had the most incredible journey.
Gina has been there at the moments in my life when I've needed the voice of reason and rational thought. She has shown me ways of dealing with life's roller-coasters by employing new strategies and new behaviours. I have developed courage and strengthened my self-confidence because of her support and guidance. She never tells me anything, she merely asks me searching questions which seem to push the right buttons and elicit responses which develop new strategies.
